PGT Qualifying School (Foreign): Pastor tops PGT Q-School, nips Thai in playoff
Pastor pulled through in a wild backside battle, blowing a two-stroke lead but battling back from two down with a hole left with a crucial birdie on the 72nd hole. He then watched Phongpun waver with a three-putt bogey for a 73 to force a sudden death at 284.
The Spaniard took the honors with another birdie on their return to No. 18.
Japanese Kenichi Iwao and Issei Mori took the next two spots with 286 and 289 after a 71 and 68, respectively, while Thai Kammalas Namuangruk matched par 72 to tie American Sean Talmadge, who limped with a 75, at fifth at 291.
Andy Kang, also of the US, fired a 71 to share seventh place at 292 with Japanese Kei Matsuoka, who carded a 74, while Kei Takahashi hobbled with a second 76 for a 295 and Yuta Sudo shot a 70 for joint 10th with Korean Park Jun Hyeok, who carded a 75, at 296.
The top 17 plus ties among the 41 survivors Wednesday earned Category 6 spots in the 2019 Philippine Golf Tour starting fields of the circuit put up by ICTSI with the rest settling for Category 8 berths.
Two down after 54 holes, Pastor caught up with third round leader Phongpun at the turn with a 34, went two-up as the Thai bogeyed Nos. 11 and 12. But the former double bogeyed No. 13 and fell by two again as Phongpun birdied No. 15 and Pastor dropped a stroke on the next.
The new PGT season kicks off on April 22 with the rich The Country Club Invitational.
